Artists Opportunities

THIS PAGE:   The Rules   The Ops

This page includes all our art ops. There is no mailing list.

The Rules

Any Opportunity for which artists in Dallas, Texas, USA are eligible is acceptable. Only local, Dallas or Dallas-area organizations get the benefit of the editor's doubts. Snail mail is ignored. Send ops to our email address listed near the top of the Contact Us page using "OPs" as the subject. Ops without deadlines will be deleted at inopportune moments. If you send the same opportunity more than once, we won't run your opportunities.

Send it at least a month before deadline, preferably much longer. Give artists plenty of time to make their best art.

Text in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS will be deleted, making text around it look stupid. Do not abbreviate. Spell everything out. If your opportunity does not include an email address or a URL, and a deadline, it will NOT be included.

List the exact URL of the page on your site that describes this opportunity, not the home page. Enter URLs in full http://www.etc format. Readers shouldn't have to search all over your site to find the info they need. Email us the shortest possible version. The rest of your info should be on your web page.

The Editor is suspicious of those seeking art donations for altruistic causes not listed. Beware of scammers and grandiose promises, like rich patrons will see your work and pay you big money and give you shows. Know better. Red text warns. Pink type announces dates & deadlines. Editor's comments are in gray.

Scams, which some of these may well be, are listed/explained at the bottom of this page. Re-title also has a page of Fraud Alerts. Listing here in no way implies DallasArtsRevue.com or its publisher JRCompton or anybody else supports or recommends any of these "opportunities," if they even are opportunities.

Scams

If you get emails from South America or Nigeria or Irving, Texas promising to send you a "certified cashier cheque" (or other wording) for your art or your boat or your Sousaphone, pay attention. It is very possibly — if not likely — they are attempting to scam you.

The classic format involves them sending you a check for more than you agreed to charge. You are expected to go to a bank, cash the (probably bogus) check and send the difference back to the thieves who are preying on your desire to sell art, boat, Sousaphone.

I (the editor) know it's a scam, because many DallasArtsRevue artists have been targeted.

That said, many people see something on the internet and assume it is for sale, even if no price is mentioned. They flail about attempting to buy it or multiples of it (warning! warning!).

There are legitimate buyers of art out there, and they may contact you, and you may do business with them. But pay attention. Google the phrasing they use, and you'll find pages warning about scams. I googed "certified cashier cheque" and found More internet scams, Wedding Photographer, Musical Instrument Sales and Fraud Attempts on your Classified Advertisements on the first two pages of results.
