When I was a kid, my mother, Mary Compton, was always working on some kind of craft. Now she paints rocks and does mosaic tile. When I was about ten, she hammered a relief design into this piece of flat copper, filled its backing with clay, painted the background, varnished it and framed it appropriately.

I got this 19 x 24-1/2 inch treasure from my childhood last Christmas. It is one of a pair of copper tigers now in my collection.This and two inexpensive "brushstroke," Picasso prints led my way into early art appreciation.

I just didn't want you to think all the art in my collection was high-falutin'.
