poetry by Ken Shaddock
The WriterThis writer is not me
I have not the experience of sensitivity
I am not tearful, melancholy, or sad
I am not angry, sullen, or mad
I cannot tie words with strings
or confuse feelings for other things
no, this writer is not me
I will not give the authority
to enter my soul and look around
to gawk and stare at what is found
we'll let them guess, we'll play a game
we'll toss them words, letters to proclaim
that, this writer is not me
'though these words might be
you are deceived, you have been snookered
I am not the poet, but the poet crookered
some words I lay before your feet
and words bely a world so sweet
like flowers fallen from their stems
my words, my worlds, enduring gems
I close my eyes, I cannot see
what everyone knows so obviously
the writer is not me.
a short poem inspired by a photograph by J R Compton (below)
Light in the Water
a time between
a familiar mystery
set aside thought
but just aside
unexpected
place of yearning
of peace
stillness
across the water
something is happening
