One of the most memorable artists on last September's autumn art tour was at Mattingly Baker's Five Clay sculptors show. I refer to the very imaginative, mostly human figures by Austin artist Claudia Reece.
What initially appears to be short people serving drinks, pointing or just standing there are actually five stunted, 3/4 size, new wave styled, not quite grotesque ah people with duck legs, dog and bird hats and other assorted animal features.
Reece has used a remarkable variety of brightly colorful glazes and other clay techniques on each giant figurine. Though essentially harmless, the slightly surreal figures are almost ferocious in the way they confront the viewer.
