Gregory Hornbeck says, "I've wanted to be a painter all my life -- God cursed me." But recognition hasn't come easy. His first-ever public showing was at ArtWalk 85. Unfortunately, his large, multi-hued and layered, phantasmagoric constructions there were dimly-lit and crowded, making them difficult to view or appreciate. However, at Dallas Artists I, curated by Deep Elm studio-mate and ceramist Gene Anderson in the Plaza of the Americas Gallery, they were given plenty of space and light. And they were very impressive, if difficult to classify.
