A Simplified Introduction to
The Pages of DallasArtsRevue
Detail of Art Shirer's steel sculpture, Vonnegut, 1994
With more than 1,100 pages of visual art news, views and reviews from Dallas, Texas, USA, DallasArtsRevue is a website for, by and about Dallas artists.
It was published on paper from 1979 through 1995, and online all of this century.
I called this publication DARts before the Dallas Transit System adopted that name. Back then, they were just buses. There's a Short History of DallasArtsRevue for more info.
The Site Index is a little more complicated form of this page.
Members
DallasArtsRevue Supporting Members pay $75 or more a year to support the site, where they get a page to show their work, and every time they are in a show or art event listed in our calendar or any other page, we link their name to their page, which helps them be findable on the internet. It also helps curators find their work for shows.
Members Index - links to all DARts Supporting Members' pages, including art by a wide variety of artists from beginners to big-name artists in a wide variety of art forms.
CalendarThe Dallas Arts Calendar includes listings for Exhibitions; Events, Tours & Talks; Series; Community News; and Dallas Artists Out of Town.
The calendar also includes links to the Gallery & Art Spaces Information Page and How to Submit Calendar Events, so we can list your art shows and events
Ours is the only Dallas art calendar that includes the names of all Dallas artists in every show we list. We don't care about Big Time Art Guys from Out Of Town, but we are very interested in Dallas art and Dallas-area aritsts.
D-Magazine called Editor/Publisher J R Compton (me) Dallas' Best Local Arts Promoter:
“ Dallas has its share of art critics, but few can claim the career longevity of the curmudgeonly J R Compton, who’s covered the local arts scene since the early ’70s. His web site provides exhaustive coverage of local artists, shows, and cultural happenings. With his educated eye and knowledgeable sense of history, he’s not afraid to dish out some strong opinion.”
