The DARts Show After Next

The next DARts show will be the Photo-Related Show this January at DallasDarkroom. The Richland Show, if it is approved by the Richland College Gallery Committee, could very well be the one after that.

DARts Supporting Members,

Shortly after the Northwood Show bit the dust, I responded to an E-mail promoting Plush gallery's fall schedule with a quick question to Randall Garrett, who also directs the Richland College gallery.

I told Randall:

I'm very interested in submitting a proposal for a DallasArtsRevue Supporting Members exhibition at Richland College. Can you send me any necessary forms or suggestions?

Thanks,
J R Compton

And Randall Responded:

J.R. - no forms needed, just send some type of statement describing the show, and representative images of the artists to my attention...

The images can be slides/photos/digital files, no preference here.... I look forward to seeing the proposal.

- Randall

So, members, which pictures from your Member Pages or Other New Work would you like me to send him as representing the work you'd hang in that show?

I plan to put together a web page with the statement and representative images, then burn it all on a CD, as well as upload it on a web page for all to see.

There is no calendar yet. It might be quick, it might be years. But it is an opportunity. Unlike Northwood, Richland has been having shows for years. They have a mailing list.

The have a budget for receptions and invitations (though not much creativity in the designs). People know where the college and the gallery is. Richland has an actual art department with lots of art classes, so there'll be hundreds of potential visitors already on campus.

It's a clean, well-lighted place, not a glitzy hallway, although Richland's galleries often serve multi-functions.

I probably should make the same proposal to Brookhaven College. But I'll wait till Mercury goes Direct again, first.

This show would have to be slightly curated, but I'd want as much variety as possible, from as many DARts Members on as many levels as possible.

Slightly Curated = informal studio visits where JR or a small committee (max three members) decide(s) which works from each member would be best to show.

I want several works each by lots of members. We'll go for variety and quality. I want this show to be impressive — both to Randall, so we can get on their calendar, and to the students and other visitor.

I want to introduce a bunch of people to DallasArtsRevue.com, of course. But I also want to introduce your work to a lot of people.

So.

Which newish work would you like to include in a nice show in a real gallery in North Dallas?

Since Jim has been in the hospital so long and just now getting around to looking at printouts of emails he's received, here is his response to your email of August 15:

From Jim: Yes, I am with you all. Any exposure is good exposure. Just last week got an out of state designer inquiry who saw my work in DARts. No sale yet but potential. I am a little less mobile than before, but no less determined; so, if I can get new photos made, I want to participate.

Thanks!

Members,

My camera is back, and I'm eager to photograph new work. Please E-mail me to make sure I'll be here when you bring by one or two of your new work(s).

JR Compton

I haven't entered any shows in several months, but I'm interested in being in the Richland show. Keep me posted.

Jeff Green

I would like to participate in the Richland show.

Sheila

Thanks, and I'd love to be a part of the show at Richland! Really don't have anything new for you to photograph at this point. What I'll suggest is that you send one of the 'foliage' paintings and the long 'aerial view' piece.

The delay in getting back is due to the computer cratering with that 'worm' thing, and Tom being out of town until yesterday.

I appreciate your being on top of these things and letting me know. Is there anything else that I can (or should) be doing?

Thanks again!
Bob Nunn

Thanks for writing. I will be glad to participate in the Richland show; however, because of the eye operation I haven't made any new work. Once I get my classes going, maybe I can do some new work.

Paul Harris

Good morning, Well, of course, with such a nice offer to show even old works--David would certainly participate. He just feels bad that he doesn't have any new work. Let us know when you want to do that Happy Hour with Randall. How about this---why don't you come by and look at David's existing work and tell us what you think would show well and then photograph it? At your convenience.

Linda Hickman

Count me in and let me know what I can do when the time comes.

Chris Bergquist Fulmer

I like the Happy Hour idea a lot - just let me know when and where!

Marty Ray

JR, Sorry we haven't responded on the Richland Show. It sounds wonderful but David is so blessed with work he just can't even think about it right now. I didn't want you to think we weren't interested. We really appreciate what you are doing and look forward to participating down the road.

Linda Hickman

Hi JR, enjoyed the short visit during TSA reception. Richard and I would be interested in the Richland show. Since the work on our pages is very new, pick any of these as very representative of what we might put in.

Would welcome you to select the work.

I would have a concern about secure cases for any of my pottery - in college galleries, pots have been taken from exhibits - so that would be a prime concern for me in this show.

Thank you for making the plans, I'd love to show again with ArtsRevue artists!

Marty R

j r, I would love to be in the Richland exhibition. I will send you a new image by August 22, if that works for you. I am completing a new piece.

Thanks very much,
Melodee Ramirez

Dana Jackson

I would love for you to shoot some of the new stuff I have done. enough with the caps. not me at all...

i have several things to add to my page and the art show if you are interested. i still plan on moving to mexico in the fall, but would love to participate in this show. i have a new cell and new address. lets get it all straight before august 28th... mercury retrograde stuff... anyways...

thanks for the midnight ramble!

Dear,

Sounds very good.

K

JR, that sounds great, thank you. I have some new slides . I'll send with my check for this year.

N

Whichever way you plan it I trust your judgement. I would like to use new images. (See near top of page)

Elisabeth

Hi JR,

The possible show sounds good to me, which gallery at Richland would it be in? You can use the work on my members page, however I do have some new stuff. Have you thought about the Mesquite Art Center as a possible site? I don't know anything about getting a show there but it is a thought, space isn't bad and they have a lot of performances so there would be an audience.

Susan

No telling this early which gallery at Richland.

The Other MAC (Mesquite Art Center)'s gallery space is another hallway, relatively tiny, with a lowish ceiling, and two doors to outside and no one anywhere near to provide any sense of security.

Way too like Northwood's space IMHO.

I was there for T.Stone's reception, and there was a biggish crowd watching a jazz performance outside, but none (0) of them came in to see the art. We're talking Mesquite here, not Fort Worth — a different level of art involvement. I don't think those people care much about art. T may differ.-JRC

Hi JR,

I was going to send you [this] news release when I realized you already had the info on my show up on the calendar. Thank you very much. I've attached an image of one of the new pieces in the show in case you want to use it.

It would be great to have some new images on my member page. I can send you some or, as we both know — yours are always superior. If you're going out to the Irving show sometime, there is a triptych and some others that are better lit and better hung there than they will be at the studio.

The Richland show sounds like a great opportunity. I'd love to be included, depending on timing. I'm already committed to a couple of other group shows next year. For submitting, feel free to use the image attached and how about Earth Moves off my member page? I can send other images of new work

if you like or perhaps we can get some good images out of the Irving show, if that's convenient for you. If not, I can send you new images that I've taken.

Thanks as always, Sonia

Anita Horton

Dear JR,

This sounds good. Here's a new piece that I've done for an invitational show in Austin last spring. I would love to show it again. I've also NOT been doing assemblage. I've done six 20 x 30 inch charcoal self portraits, and I've started carving. Does any of that sound interesting to you?
