The First
Annual DallasArtsRevue Meeting &
Potluck Supper
September
21 at JR's
house was
more of a meeting -- as in meeting each other and just sitting
around and talking and eating together -- than a formal, sit-down
JR running the show and everybody listening intently, formal
annual meeting. ![]() I thought I'd have something important to impart to the group, but when everyone had gathered into a tense, extended rectangle in my living room, all I could think of was let's eat and talk, so we did. When I do need to tell the members something, I usually do it in my monthly rambles. The food was great, the conversation flowed plentifully, and people wandered around my house looking at and talking about art and everything and anything else, as well as meeting old and new friends. It was a delight that went on for some of us till about 2:30 ayem Sunday. Most people came within the first hour, but others wandered in or out later into the night. Old friend Jim Dolan joined on the spot, and in addition to DARts Supporting Members Suzanne Truex, Chris Fulmer, David & Linda Hickman, Larry Enge & Carol Wilder, Anila Agha, Shiela Cunningham, Paul Harris, Marty Ray (Richard was at a Treasure Hunting meeting), James Michael Starr, his future bride Alison White (whose page isn't up yet), and Jim Bowman (ditto; MaryLynn was visiting the new grand baby), we'd also invited frequent DARts advisor Barbara West and her husband David McCullough. I talked with the Jims Dolan and Bowman, about their pages -- soon, soon. A third, James Crowe, couldn't make it, because he's dangerously allergic to my cat, Yo, who disappeared most of the night, but had already left strategic areas of fur and dander. If we had such a thing, we'd have had a simple quorum of Supporting Members present. We talked of many things, even DallasArtsRevue sometimes, but for a first-ever annual meeting, it was utterly perfect -- except I forgot to put out the apples and the dips. These words and pictures are as close as it gets to minutes of the meeting. -JRCompton ![]() Larry Enge, David McCullough, Anila Agha, Paul Greco, Jim Dolan and about a quarter of Jim Bowman ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hi there JR
Your party was great. I enjoyed your home, loved your office. Food,
friends and conversation, a bunch of artists (in a most interesting
environment), it was memorable for sure. I also enjoyed getting to know
Kathy better. Thank goodness you two met - together you bring to our
community a unique form of art critique. It is amazing that seem to see
every art show in the metroplex and share it all thru pictures, word,
honesty and humor. Thank you for you work and for our Annual "Meeting" Party.Marty R
