Paintings & Painted Photographs by Marty Mitchener

Marty Mitchener - Royal Cloak

Marty Mitchener - Royal Cloak, 2005
Squish - 11 x 14 inches

Gold, the color of wealth, strength and power, is dominate in this image of movement. The compliment of indigo at the edge keeps the image from floating off the page. The balance is in the imagination. Other interpretations are free and open to the public.

Marty Mitchener - Painted Poppies, 2005
photograph and paint - 8 x 12 inches

The poppies were carefully composed by the Dallas Arboretum. As the photograph came to life, it seemed a perfect image to enhance with a painterly technique.

Blue Tree - Marty Mitchener

Marty Mitchener - The Blue Tree, 2005
photograph and paint - 8 x 12 inches

As a photograph, the image was flat and lifeless. The challenge was to transform the color and maintain the composition. The result, a rather surrealistic, happy tree.

Marty Mitchener - Cityscape, 2005
acrylic on canvas - 6 x 8 inches

One rainy Saturday I had an overwhelming desire to paint. This evolved into my interpretation of a cruise around Manhattan Island in 1990.

Marty Mitchener - The Mask

Marty Mitchener - The Mask, 2006
Squish Transfer - 6 x 6 inches

Handmade papers that adorn the inside of books are the inspiration of this technique. Colors softly mold together at times, while others want to be read boldly. Occasionally, a life-like image becomes apparent.

Marty Mitchener - Vibrant Glaze

Marty Mitchener - Vibrant Glaze, 2005
Squish Art -  8 x 10 inches

Acrylic and glass have ventured together to send a message of color. The textures seem fossil-like, while the hues are contemporary.
