Parry Ave. Alley

Photos and Wonderment by JR Compton

I was just about to give up on these public art pages, one of the original reasons for this site, when, while walking around the Parry Avenue Contemporary Art District looking for, into and at the galleries there, I noticed this big, huge public display of art -- art so big, and in such a confined space, that it's difficult to imagine why it would be there, except that it was a large 'canvas' in a wildly diverse neighborhood full of artists.

And there it is.

Some of the art there is wonderful. Some not so.

I'd love to credit the artist ( or probably artists ), but there was so much scribbling and illegibility in and around the various images -- and such style variety, I couldn't find a signature. Although that cyclopian canine is probably his own signature.

Or maybe this is.

I say plural artists, because there's so much stylistic variety down this one narrow alleyway that leads from the Parry Avenue storefronts facing the main entrance to the State Fairgrounds to the parking lots behind.

What is the figure above? Part super human, part cockroach, part lost in style painting.

At least I know what this one is. If I knew the grafittists of Deep Elm -- and I think I should -- I'd probably know already. But I don't.

I'm not sure what to make of this elongated crucifixion and its inter twined and inter related figures. Nice to watch but no idea what it all means, and not much interest in figuring it all out. I love the colors, the textures, the shapes, the drama.

If anybody knows who the artists involved in this project are, who provided the paint, etc. please let me know, and I'll credit where credit is due.
