The DARts I Want page

Somebody wants something, they write to DARts at the email addres listed near the top of the Contact page, and I post edited versions of their email letters here. The most recent are on top. I'll post a link to your E-mail address at the end. If you paid me for the service, I'd post it quicker. As a free service, however, I take my sweet time.-JRC

I have an earlier Jack Mims painting, 6 foot by six foot (estimated) color of a nude. I have had it for years, but my husband and I are expecting and he is worried about having such a large nude in the home with kids. So, I really don't know what to do with it. I would like to sell it, but I have no idea how to go about a price or even if anyone wants it. I was hoping you might have an idea about some contacts for me.

Jack was [formerly related] and I don't want to get rid of this piece at all. i love it. But it just doesn't work for our lives anymoire and it is WAY too big to store. If you have any ideas for me, please contact me.

I can send pics if you need them or want them.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The City of Dallas is asking your organization to help us build a network map of cultural organizations in Dallas. Through this process we will identify existing and potential connections between individuals, organizations and the community. It is hoped that understanding and leveraging these connections will provide a conduit to create and strengthen grassroots community engagement to spur lasting revitalization. Examples in Dallas, such as the Design District, the Cedars, and north Oak Cliff, have shown that creativity can serve as a change agent for economic revitalization within a community. The goal of this project is to tap into this economic development resource by mapping the creative community within Dallas and increasing its connectedness.

We would appreciate your organization distributing this survey link to your members. Through your help, we can start building a picture of Dallas’ creative economy. At the end of this project we will produce an online map and document for the public that will locate and identify the interconnections between organizations and individuals that contribute to the creative economy.

Thank you in advance for helping us in this endeavor. We look forward to sharing the results of this study with you. For questions or further information, please contact Justin Tirsun at

My name is Mike Ide and I just moved to Dallas three weeks ago. I was wondering if you knew of any art stores/ galleries/ classes in which I would be able to rent space and supplies for a few hours. My girlfriend is a huge Jackson Pollock fan and I thought it would be fun for us to try to paint our own masterpiece. The problem is that I am not a painter by any means, so I do not have any of the necessary supplies or room to complete such a project. I am just looking for a place that would allow us to come in and use some supplies and room to paint. I would pay for the canvas and paint of course. Any contact information would be greatly appreciated.

My wife and I are considering moving to Dallas within the year. I am looking for an art studio space that I could rent. I am a painter and my work is fairly large scale. Are there any art co-ops or areas of town where artists rent spaces? I live in Santa Fe currently and am renting a space in a small industrial park, and there are several other artists renting spaces in the same there anything like this in Dallas. Any info you could give me would be great, as I really have no idea where to begin looking.

Dear JR,

I am hoping with your vast knowledge of the Dallas art community you might be able to provide me with a bit of information.

I am trying to locate a person named Elizabeth Nolen. She operates under the business name of ART 21. She is suppose to be an independent art rep. I agreed to have her represent my art. Unfortunately for myself ... she has disapppeared. She no longer answers the phone number I have for her, as well as no response to emails. And most of all has moved out of the
loft space she was living and operating out of. She has about 6000.00 of my artwork.

I have contacted the Dallas police department and reported it as a thief ... but they don't seem to eager to help. So I am contacting local people within the art community to see if by chance someone is familiar with her.

Thank you for your time.

Looking for places to clean old oil paintings and restore original picture frames. I have some old impressionistic paintings from the 1930's done in a very heavy painting style that needs to be cleaned. Any suggestions would be great thanks.

SEEKING: Ann Hughs

I have been trying to locate the owner of a gallery that was in Dallas and closed several years ago.
She formerly practiced psychiatry and her name is Ann Hughs.

I met her on a camping trip years ago, but the last time I talked to her (and her daughter) was several years ago when they were closing the gallery.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Doug Thorburn

Dear JR; I was googling for information about a local artist and came across your compelling and opinionated site. (Now that I have complimented you,) I wonder if you have heard of a now deceased 1980s Dallas artist named "Franklin." His first name is James, I believe, and his forte was airbrush in a surrealistic manner. He did pictures of photo-realist eggs floating in the atmosphere but I also have some of stripes undergoing color changes. I would appreciate leads toward galleries which used to represent him. Thanks,

David E. Samara, M.D. 3601 Brown Street Dallas, TX 75219

I am looking for a cool, off-the-beaten-path venue for a reception in December (New Year's Eve). I stumbled upon a few venues that have potential (i.e. Kül, and 7 Senses), but I'm sure there are a lot of other fantastic galleries/spaces around Dallas that I'm not aware of. If you have a moment and anything comes to mind, will you let me know? I would really appreciate it!

Hi, I'm an artist in Waco, who's searching for someone to make molds of two sculpted steins. I'll also need them poured and fired, and if possible, painted (someone who's an excellent painter). These are for a collector in NY.
Do you or anyone you know fill the bill on this project? Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

Monkeys sky wall

I'm helping a musician out with some cover art for a cd, and he is totally set on using this art. I just thought it would be a good idea to get permission first. :-) The musician took these pictures with his camera the last time he was playing in Dallas.

Thank you for your help. Please let me know if you have any luck or if you could direct me to someone else who may be able to help.

Thanks so much..!

Watching an old couple... by Gregory Horndeski

[Allison] has a painting by Gregory Horndeski that I have enjoyed having in my house since I bought it in 1986. At that time I was studying fine arts and art history at Rice University. Now I have a small business doing video post production. I am looking for an art collector who might be interested in buying this piece from me. It is an acrylic on canvas titled 3Watching an Elderly Couple Walk Uphill2 and signed by Gregory 2/1/85. It is 142 x 162.

Thank you,

If anyone is intersted, please E-mail the Editor so he can collect a commission on the sale.

I work for Gerald Peters Gallery here in Dallas and am looking for different ways of becoming more involved in the art community. I also am trying to place some great liturgical sculpture pertaining to the Catholic Church and would appreciate any referrals or thoughts you may have on this subject. The works are of great rendition and respect for the church and I feel it needs to belong somewhere to serve as inspitation to others. A signature piece may be viewed on our website. Kindest Regards,

I am preparing a small study on Dallas' local art scene and the "Arts District" with a focus on a couple things: (1) Extant splintered factions: (Why is there not a more communal effort, free from elitism & stratifications?) (2) Where does the local art industry need to go?(What are the most needed improvements?) Can you enlighten and offer up some points on these topics? Feel free to inject any venom regarding long-standing issues not-yet-addressed. If you’d rather meet with me instead of yet more computer work, let me know.

Thank you so very much,

I found this drawing at a Goodwill Store. I like unusual things. Something about this picture interested me and so I bought it. It was but a few Dollars. Remember the Dallas telephone books with all the buildings and then here and there funny characters waiting to be discovered? This picture has the same feel, but no funny characters. Oh, by the way, in the lower right corner is written the following: "Dedicated to CHIP", "Dallas", "Ricardo", and "@Texan". Actually behind the "n" on Texan is a triangle.

If the artist is a Dallas or Texas artist I thought you might.

Inge Bernaldo @

uh-oh, she went to so much trouble to send me those files, then I musta deleted them in the last big purge... sorry - JRC
